Pricing

Reasonably priced and flexible fee arrangements

I strive to make family law services affordable and accessible to people who need them.

For the most part, I charge based on an hourly rate. However, I do also offer a variety of different fee arrangements depending on the type of service you’re looking for and the circumstances of your case. These may include:

  • Hourly rate

  • Hourly rate, with a cap

  • Flat fee (also known as fixed fee)

  • Modified flat fee (e.g. flat fee with the possibility of additional hourly fees for certain types of unanticipated or unusual events)

While not every family law issue is amenable to a flat fee, I do my best to make flat fee options available for as many services as possible. Currently, I offer flat fee options for uncontested divorces, some mediation work (when I am hired to be the Mediator), cohabitation or marriage agreements, and separation agreements if the terms already been agreed upon. Typically, I can provide an estimate of my flat fee after we have completed an intake call. To contact me about scheduling a free 15 minute intake call, click here.

Whatever fee arrangement we agree on, I do my best to ensure that my fees are reasonable, predictable, and that there are no surprises for my clients.

Legal Aid

I am pleased to be able to accept clients who qualify for representation by a legal aid lawyer through the Legal Aid BC. To learn more about qualifying for legal aid, click here. Please note that I do not accept any litigation (court) work so if you are inquiring about a Legal Aid matter in which you need representation in court, I likely cannot assist.

I also accept mediation referrals at the Legal Aid tariff rate for clients who are being represented by a Legal Aid lawyer.

What if I can’t afford you?

I appreciate that for many people who are going through a separation, it’s hard to find the money to pay for a mediator or a lawyer. I am committed to making my services accessible to as many people as possible regardless of ability to pay.

I offer a wide range of unbundled services, which are a flexible, affordable option for many people.

I also mediate, represent clients in the Collaborative Process, and offer some services at reduced rates for people who can’t afford my standard hourly rate but don’t qualify for legal aid. My reduced rates are set based on a sliding scale. To find out more about pricing options and to inquire about my availability to take on mediation work or legal representation at reduced rates, please contact me.
